Not a lot of people agree with the pointed arguments I frequently make about the utter failures of the Australian political system.
Chris Kenny is one of few political commentators who speaks out about all the right things.
Compare what he says here with what I have been arguing for at least the last 3-4 years.
Australia's political system is completely undemocratic, unfair and now only locks in one possible outcome, producing a fragmented Parliament and Senate which probably ensures Australia is now unable to pass any substantial political reform.
The worst part about it, the dysfunction is embedded and has become systemic.

Re: [Australian Politics] Australian Politics
As if Australia's political dysfunction wasn't bad enough, it's made worse by the Government forming a shadow coalition with the Australian Terrorist Party, also known as The Greens, and the Teal Cult.
Is it really any surprise that younger voters are so unwilling to engage politically?
And this unwillingness to engage in politics is only creating a stronger foundation to argue against compulsory voting, which in the scope of global politics is beginning to make Australia an outlier.

Re: [Australian Politics] Australian Politics
For reasons I have never understood, Australia has a long history of being blinded by Indonesia's lies.
Indonesia is the most untrustworthy nation in the entire Asia/Pacific region.
Their claims of pushing back against Russia's intentions to establish its own military presence in Indonesian jurisdiction cannot be believed for a second.

Re: [Australian Politics] Australian Politics
This is just a waste and totally hypocritical.
On one hand they're trying to dumb down children by keeping them off the internet until they're 16, and on the other hand trying to teach ages 4-16 digital literacy.
No surprise that this country is continually moving backward compared to the rest of the world.

Sky News political commentators suggesting that the Australian Navy's new tugboats pose a national security threat because they are made in China is one of the most ridiculous and baseless claims I've ever heard.

Re: [Australian Politics] Australian Politics
So much of the obvious frustration with the ineptness and deficiencies in Australia's ability to function as it once did, along with our existential identity crisis expressed here, is aligned with many of the comments I have made.

Re: [Australian Politics] Australian Politics
The Liberal Party’s struggle to rebuild is just the tip of the iceberg.
The latest federal election results are Exhibit A for how broken Australia’s democracy is—and preferences are the disease that’s killing it.
Labor is only ahead by about 340,000 votes in the primaries (~81% counted), but the difference in projected seats is astronomically higher.

This isn’t about political parties—it’s about a system that’s fundamentally flawed.
Preferences have turned democracy into a joke, slashing the value of your vote and leaving millions of Australians feeling utterly powerless.
Here’s the cold, hard truth: preferences are tearing this country apart.
They’re why the Liberal Party is hemorrhaging support, and they’re why voter turnout is dropping like a stone—down to around 80%, which is a shocking 10% drop from 2022.

People are waking up to the fact that their votes don’t matter anymore.
Why bother when the system is rigged against you?
The proof is in the numbers—both the votes and the turnout.
Preferences have gutted our democracy, making it a hollow shell of what it should be.
It’s not hyperbole to say that they’re destroying this country’s electoral integrity.
The question is, how much longer will we let this continue?
